“Un bel di, Verdremo”

(One good day, we will see…)

Madama Butterfly

Giacomo Puccini

1858-1924

Giacomo Puccini wrote many notable operas with exceptional women as his heroines. Tosca, Turandot, Manon Lescaut, La Bohème and Madama Butterfly are several that come to mind. Aida and Butterfly are often suggested for the first time opera goer.

I wanted this violin to reflect the quiet beauty and dignity of Butterfly as she sings…

“One good day, we will see
Arising a strand of smoke
Over the far horizon on the sea
And then the ship appears.
What will he say? What will he say?
He will call Butterfly from the distance.”
